Firefighters hope to fill the boot

In 1952, a gentleman named Charlie Crowley was seeking assistance for his disabled sons. With nowhere else to turn, he approached a man by the name of George Graney, and told his tale. Graney, with assistance from 20 of his friends, took to the streets with cans, raising $5,000 – a considerable sum in those days – to provide care for Crowley’s children.

  • Housing units approved

    If there is a recession, the word hasn’t gotten around to Burlington real estate developers and their clients. The Planning Board met Thursday, Aug. 21 until after 11 p.m., processing permits for a variety of new and redeveloped properties in town.

  • Motion fails to rezone estate

    Since January 2006, Planning Board member Paul Raymond has been attempting to get the City of Boston land, known as the Cummings Estate, rezoned from residential to open space.

    The land in question is on the east side of Burlington, and part of the original grant from the Cummings estate is in Woburn. The deed says the land must be used as a “public pleasure ground.”

  • Leone declines to pursue requested criminal complaint against Marzilli

    Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone has once again declined to prosecute state Sen. Jim Marzilli, D-Arlington, for an alleged sexual assault in Arlington.

    In May, after an initial five-week investigation, Leone’s office announced it would not pursue charges related to the April 6 incident.
